How it Works

Made of Class A open-cell melamine-based foam, the Hi-Sabin Panels serve as an acoustical cloud with very low density. These open cells absorb sound better than other foams, which results in a very high Noise Reduction Coefficient.

The core material of the panels is exposed, uncovered, for the greatest cost effectiveness and performance.

Sound absorption depends on thickness and mounting type. NRC as high as 1.25 can be achieved.

The Benefits

The Hi-Sabin Panels have a number of benefits over competitive products.

  • Color choice of white, light gray or medium gray, with consistent through-color.
  • Choice of standard or custom sizes for use in any space needing control of sound reverberation renovations.
  • Class “A” Fire-Rated with Flame Spread Index of 5 and Smoke Developed Index of 0.
  • Cost effective at installed cost per sabin less than that of typical lay-in acoustical panel ceilings.
  • Fit for exposed structure ceilings found in manufacturing facilities, gymnasiums, corridors, pools and lofts.
  • Simple installation with no hardware required.
  • Extremely lightweight and adhesive-friendly.

Results

The Hi-Sabin Panel is the most cost-effective reverberant noise control system available, offering the highest NRC performance for sound absorption panels via the open cells that absorb sound.

Installation Instructions

Extremely lightweight, the Hi-Sabin Panel adheres to the ceiling with hot-melt adhesive. To do so, apply a few dabs to the back of the panel and set in place.

When standoffs are used, install the standoffs with the hot-melt adhesive to the back of the panel at quarter points, allow to set, then apply to the top of the standoffs and set in place.

STC can provide the standoffshot-melt adhesive gun and adhesive strips for your convenience.

I want to thank you for the acoustic panels you installed at 800 Maple. The difference is truly amazing; we love them. As you know poor acoustics can ruin an otherwise perfect evening. These were quite a game-changer for the restaurant.

Hi-Sabin Panels

Thank you for the professional consulting and installation of acoustic panels at the Trek-Torrent headquarters in Lockport. The installation is discreet and does not detract from the exposed concrete structure and the panels make the room work much better for its intended purpose. We, and our clients, are very pleased with the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Hi-Sabin Panel made of?

Basotect® by BASF, an open-cell low-density melamine-based foam that has extraordinary sound absorption characteristics. Basotect® has a Class A fire-rating per ASTM E84 with a flame spread index of 5 and smoke-developed index of 0.

Does the Hi-Sabin Panel meet International Building Code (IBC) requirements?

Yes. Section 2603.3 requires foam plastic cores of manufactured assemblies to have a flame spread index of not more than 75 and a smoke-developed index of not more than 450. In addition, panels are tested per UL 94 for flammability of plastic material and demonstrate Class V-0, and for low density foam HF-1. Basotect® is so fire resistive it is used for fire protection.

How are Hi-Sabin panels installed?

Best acoustical results and economy are achieved with Furred and Spaced Type J mounting per ASTM E795 utilizing hot melt adhesive and foam standoff mounts. Panels can also be Direct Attached Type A, Suspended Type E or Furred and Butted Type F-50.

What colors are available?

The Standard colors are white, light gray, and medium gray. White is stocked and ships in 2 weeks. Light gray and medium gray require 4-6 weeks.

What configurations are available?

Both flat- and patterned-face panels are available.

What sizes are available?

Standard sizes include rectangular panels in any combination of thickness at 1″, 1-1/2″, or 2″ and face dimensions of 12″ x 24″, 24″ x 24″ or 24″ x 48″. Flat surface panels are available in any custom size up to 2″ thick x 50″ x 90″. Panels may be cut to any custom two-dimensional shape including curves; consult factory.

Are there any limitations?

Panels are very soft and subject to abuse. They should be located on upper walls and ceilings that are out of reach. Panels will also expand due to moisture in the air and may sag slightly when used in high-humidity environments such as interior pools.
